You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I was a bit cynical about the author initially, but when you read his book and his web site you don't meet the "savvy trader" you expect, you meet an altogether much more interesting and amusing character. He also lists statistical findings for performance, breakout targets, failure rates, etc, together with sample trades and advice on optimal strategy for each pattern. I've gone ahead and created my own, but standardized, ready reference cheat sheets would be a great additional resource. Bulkowski also tells you exactly how to measure and identify patterns so you're not left squinting at your screen thinking, "Jeez, is that a Cup with Handle or a Double Bottom?

The Encyclopedia of Chart Patterns, Third Edition further solidifies the reputation of this book as the leading reference on chart patterns, setting it far above the competition. Within the pages of this book, youll learn how to identify chart patterns, supported by easy-to-understand performance statistics describing how well a pattern works, what the failure rate is, and what special quirks suggest better future performance.Just to go over the great and not so great things about this 'bible' that I keep beside me on my night-stand, the first thing that comes to mind after perusing the pages for hours and hours using it to relate to my current portfolio is that he gives a wonderful guide to understanding, recognizing, strategizing in bull and bear markets and their corresponding statistics. A lot of work has gone into this book and it could have been a really useful guide to assessing the merits of different patterns for trading purposes. In this revised and expanded second edition of the bestselling Encyclopedia of Chart Patterns , Thomas Bulkowski updates the classic with new performance statistics for both bull and bear markets and 23 new patterns, including a second section devoted to ten event patterns. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. It would have also been very useful to have patterns grouped according to their formation time periods where they could have added tabs, colours, finger indentations or the like to open the book without be required to look at the visual chart pattern index at the back of the book or the table of contents for page references.

Encyclopedia of Chart Patterns, Second Edition also includes summary tables ranking chart- and event-pattern performance for easy reference; a glossary; a chapter on methodology explaining what each statistical table entry means and how it was calculated; and a visual index to make chart pattern identification a snap. With over 60 charting patterns included in the book, it is always handy to check on a forming pattern and check on the historical data to help predict the chance of an upward or downward breakout. He enjoys writing fiction, chasing cars with his bicycle, watching flowers bloom in his gardens, woodworking, photography, and reading. Personally I have always found it difficult to see chart patterns, so this defines them in a useful way. By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions.Whilst there are no magic bullets in the markets I found my understanding of chart patterns took a leap forward after reading this book and my timing of entries is hugely improved. Excellent book, well worth the money and would highly recommend to anyone trading in not only crypto, but any market. It would just be a bit nicer to have quick access to the most important information in validating the pattern like the average formation length, rather than rooting through 4 or 5 pages each time.

is a valuable contribution to the existing literature on charting and should be considered an indispensable reference by any serious chart trader. Bulkowski is clearly a serious trader who has made groundbreaking statistical investigation of both charts and candlesticks a key part of his trading. Bulkowski even starts the book off with useful novice and intermediate information and tips and tricks for all, like what chart horizon time frames can these patterns be used for. In addition the period covered was limited to five years only, and that in a market that was almost entirely bullish.

Bulkowski has taken an intelligent and thoughtful approach to producing a practical guide to understanding and trading chart formations. This broadened and revised Third Edition offers investors the most comprehensive, up-to-date guide to this popular method of market analysis. I'm interested in anything which helps put probabilities on my side when trading and this is a book which is all about measured results. He even forewarns readers about the methods of his 'perfect' trades that are used in his analysis and that the real world is not perfect, even though there may be some who perform perfect, as defined by Bulkowski, trades. There is however much useful information here for those who have the patience and knowledge to sort the wheat from the chaff.

In fact, I went back and analysed some of my past losing trades after reading this book to discover that I had completely misidentified some patterns. Before earning enough from his investments to "retire" from his day job at age thirty-six, Bulkowski was a hardware design engineer at Raytheon and a senior software engineer for Tandy Corporation. This definitive text includes new bull and bear market statistics, performance sorted by volume shape and trend, more than a dozen additional chart patterns, and a new section covering ten event patterns. Though I have not checked the validity just yet, either way, this book is a great leap forward into a proper quantitative basis in the securities markets. The Encyclopedia of Chart Patterns, recognized as the premier reference on chart pattern analysis, extends its lead with this Second Edition. Before earning enough from his investments to retire from his day job at age thirty-six, Bulkowski was a hardware design engineer at Raytheon, a senior software engineer for Tandy Corporation, and a software manager for Tracor-Westronics.
