In the main timeline, Kon first appears in the Substitute Shinigami Saga. It is taken from a Gikongan dispenser by Rukia and Ichigo and swallowed by Ichigo so that he can carry out his Shinigami duties while Kon sits at school. However, Ichigo and Rukia thought that Kon was a normal Gikongan.
In the manga, when Kon, inside Ichigo's body, was injured by The Millipede-like Hollow, Ichigo's left sleeve, forearm, and left side of his forehead were covered in blood.
