Amy Snow as Jane Eyre. Amy Snow an orphan, an obscure, plain figure. From the beginning of this book i had Jane Eyre vibes all over. Clearly, Jane Eyre is my favourite book of all time and i was glad i stepped to Amy Snow's world as well. There are plenty of similarities in the two novels but very slight. It's not a retelling of Charlotte Bronte's book but rather a reminder of it. I liked quiet Amy for her struggles and misfortunes, for her mild character. I admired the way she moved into society quietly though decisively. Unfortunately, there was no mr Rochester but mr Garland could be a possible mr Rochester, only not in the way of Charlotte Bronte's byronic hero but slightly different. This is this kind of a debut that make you gasp, do a double take and think: What? Debut novel? You must be joking! But yes, it is a debut novel, although yours truly can't believe it as well. Tracy's wonderful descriptions of the places and her talent to bring the characters to life make this book such an outstanding read! "Amy Snow" is written in a beautiful way, and it's both funny and heart - wrenching. I really didn't want to leave Amy and her life. Amy’s relationship with Aurelia changes her life forever. Have members of your group discuss the family, friends, and acquaintances who have changed their lives indelibly. Your group may want to analyze the kind of devotion that stems from these connections and compare it to the bond that Amy and Aurelia shared. How can the relationships we have with friends sometimes feel as strong and unbreakable as those we have with family? Rees writes lyrically and listening to the audio was a sheer pleasure. I was transported to the English countryside and moors of York as Amy Snow traversed the land on a "treasure hunt" of Aurelia's design to uncover her friend's deepest secrets.

Bella, light the fire in the Barley Room and take the lady’s bag there,” he instructs, resuming his normal pitch. “Might I recommend, miss, that you take supper in the lounge tonight? I would not suggest it except there is a blazing fire there and it will take a while for your room to reach a comfortable temperature. The lounge is quiet—the cold is keeping many at home—and, if you’ll forgive me, you look frozen to the bone, Miss...?” Džeinės Eir“ niekada neskaičiau, tad nelyginsiu šios knygos su jokia kita. Šitoje istorijoje pasakojama dviejų merginų itin artima draugystė. Dvi merginos- dvi istorijos-dvi paslaptys. Ir visi jie priminė man kažkokius pažįstamus žmones. Nesugebu nupasakoti to šilto jausmo, kurį jaučiau visą laiką su šita knyga rankoje.

I adore Tracy's writing and have from the moment I read Amy Snow when it first came out. The House at Silvermoor is a sweeping saga full of likeable characters. What a joy to read!' Lorna Cook, author of The Forgotten Village Amy Snow is your first work of fiction. Please describe how the unforgettable opening image of the book—that of a newborn baby left in the snow—first came to you? I was never really fond of contemporary historical fiction because sooner or later, they introduce an older era through the eyes of a modern writer. That is to say, the writer can not help but include sex scenes, dialogues and behaviour that suits the present rather than the past. Tracy Rees has spared the reader of those liberties. She tells the story like Jane Austen would have told it, with the voice of the 19th century writers. If a reader does not know that Tracy is a new writer, of our time, he could pass this book as a work of classic literature which is an element i loved. I have to read more books like this one. I never expected i would enjoy it so much. She nearly tumbled into the drifts when she heard an unfamiliar cry. It came in bursts, feeble yet grating, insisting she jump down and follow. She felt as though some otherworldly force were playing catch-me-if-you-can with her. It came again—goblin song—drawing her through the trees and into the sunlight.

The reasons for this were mainly narrative considerations. By the time Amy leaves Bath, there are two pressing questions: Will she uncover Aurelia’s secret, and how will her relationship with Henry resolve itself? If she had witnessed Quentin’s deception firsthand, she would really have had to confront him, and this would have taken the narrative in a different direction at that point. This in turn would have slowed down the resolution of the two main plot lines at a stage where the reader has already followed Amy through a considerable number of ups and downs. I felt it was important that Amy had the information she needed about someone who was, after all, a central figure during her time in Bath, to validate the intermittent reservations she had felt about him throughout their acquaintance, without taking her into a new avenue for drama. Aurelia’s character is mostly revealed, through her letters to Amy, through Amy’s recollections of her, and through the details provided by the many friends and acquaintances Aurelia made during her time away from Hatville Court. How do these details add up and define Aurelia? How would you describe her temperament, personality, and preoccupations? In what respects does Amy seem like a good companion for Aurelia, and vice versa? How did you decide to close Amy Snow with an epilogue from the point of view of Lady Celestina, arguably the novel’s most unlikable character? The story of Amy and her quest to find her place in the world was a fascinating one. From the moment she was born and found in the snow by Aurelia, she never really fitted in with others, but Aurelia was always there for her and vice versa. After the sad passing of Aurelia, it was obvious her family weren't going to endure her being around, and I loved how Aurelia had set up a 'treasure hunt' so to speak, to share her story and legacy after she was gone, and to pass on to Amy all that she knew and all that she had kept hidden from Amy despite their strong bond. What aspects of Aurelia’s affluent upbringing does she accept and what does she reject? What does her rescue of Amy against the wishes of her parents indicate about her? How would you describe Aurelia’s relationship with her parents? The air is so cold that the tears are flayed from my eyes, eyes I had thought to be finished with crying for all time. After the biblical floods I have shed in the last three days, I thought there could be no water left in my depleted form. Yet it seems that life, and grief, and winter go on. My toes are numb as I trudge the miles that lead me away from Aurelia’s grave and from Hatville Court, the only home, grudging as it was, that I have ever known.

You have said that you write fiction “without a detailed plan.” Does your process involve any mapping out of plot, or does that, too, develop organically as you go?

Even if I could tell you in person, how would I choose my words? We are not given a language for it, in our chaste society.” How does Aurelia’s premarital relationship with the gardener Robin defy social expectations for a young woman of her standing? How do the mores of this era, with its emphasis on female chastity rather than sexual pleasure, affect men and women differently? I absolutely adored the banter between the characters, they lived in times where appearances were everything, and so it is always a great joy to see how they manage their conversations while trying not to hurt each other or to hide their real feelings, but also managing to slip here or there their true opinions, but they do this in such an elegant, clever way - any Tracy has brilliantly grasped nature and atmosphere of this Victorian England, not only in the dialogues, but in descriptions and characters as well.
