Omo is a brand of washing powder. To most people brought up in Britain over the past half-century, it has weighed rather more heavily on the mind than the works of Kierkegaard. Indeed, it has proved impossible to get rid of it: "Omo washes not only clean, not only white, but B-R-I-G-H-T!!!! Omo adds bright, bright, bright-ness!" Yet Omo was removed from the UK market some years ago by manufacturers Unilever.

Cleaners, washing powders, etc

This is not increased choice. And we are not overloaded with information about what's happening and why. Allegedly informed consumers just have a vague sense of being manipulated, and will go on buying what they are encouraged to buy by the ad-men. As Kierkegaard said (or was it Victoria Wood?): "People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they rarely use." Laundry Detergent | Omo Laundry Detergent | Omo

Wisk was introduced in the United States by Lever Brothers Company in 1956 as the first liquid laundry detergent. Some of you may well be aware of stress relieving processes carried out when working with cast iron. Americanized spelling of the Norwegian habitational name Åmo, from a number of farmsteads so named from á ‘small river’ + mo ‘plain’, ‘moor’. How long has OMO been around? Jumping forward six decades, in 1998 and 2000, Persil again changed the laundry market with the very first tablets and capsules, making washing clothes even more convenient for ever more time-poor households. Our Persil Small & Mighty range was launched in March 2007 - the UK & Ireland's first double concentrated liquid detergent. And while we can't directly compare the scores we've given liquids and powders with the scores we've given capsule products, as we tested them slightly differently, there were a couple of capsule products from Surf that also performed poorly in our front loader tests, scoring just 53% and 54%.

Deliveries are made Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm. DPD Local provides a one hour delivery window on the day of delivery so you can carry on with other parts of your day as normal. While you may be tempted by its low cost per wash of just 6c, the Aldi Laundrite Laundry Liquid was the worst performer out of all the liquids and powders we tested, scoring just 50% – no better than plain water. But a study of the washing powder section of a local supermarket suggests that neither choice nor knowledge is increasing. Where once dozens of brands competed for our attention, now nearly all the space is taken up by just two: Persil (from the Unilever stable) and Ariel (from its rival, Procter and Gamble). Daz, once as ubiquitous as Omo, is now relegated to an obscure corner.
